What this SKU actually does
You are not buying a one-shot download. Plan + Automate is meant to keep HTTPS up as validity windows shorten: the certificate is issued after domain control, installed on the web server, watched for expiry, and renewed before it lapses. Built-in expiry alerting is part of that path. It is domain-validated RapidSSL (padlock, no organisation name on the certificate).
Where it fits (Linux / Windows vs ACME vs panels)
Choose RapidSSL Plan + Automate when you run a VPS, cloud, or dedicated box and want the simplest DigiCert-family automate for one hostname — typically Apache, Nginx, or IIS with a short installer. If you already standardise on an ACME agent (Certbot, win-acme, Kubernetes cert-manager, cPanel/Plesk ACME), quote PositiveSSL or Sectigo ACME Certificate-as-a-Service instead. cPanel/Plesk/WHMCS host-wide plugins for every SSL type are a different conversation — tell us on the quote; we will not pretend this SKU is a hosting-reseller panel product.
Why 47-day certificates make this the default
CA/Browser Forum rules are cutting maximum public TLS lifetime in phases: from 15 March 2026 certificates may be valid only up to 200 days; from 15 March 2027 up to 100 days (about four renewals a year); from 15 March 2029 down to 47 days (eight-plus renewals a year). Domain and organisation reuse windows shrink with them. Spreadsheets and calendar reminders do not scale. Automation issues, validates, installs, and renews before expiry so a missed date does not take the site offline.
What automation does not remove
You still prove domain control on first setup. You still need a host that can run the Automate client. OV/EV identity checks, if you later upgrade, still take business days. Crypto-agility (rotating certs often) is a benefit of short life, not a substitute for backups or a WAF.
